Youth Involvement
Over the past couple of years, many youth have been involved with our association due to school projects, college, high school and middle school, Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts and church projects. Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association encourages youth to become involved. If any youth are interested in working with our assocation, please call the office at 724-774-6600. Below is a listing of the youth and their projects:
College Course Projects:
Amanda Brobeck, Penn State-Beaver Campus, Amanda volunteered in our office for a class project and continues to volunteer.
Senior Projects,
2007-2008 School Year
Patrick Shamp, Center High School-Patrick will be completing his senior project by assisting us with our fall event.
Kay Loni Bozic, Big Beaver Falls High School-Kay Loni will be completing her senior project by participating in our golf outing and in our fall event.
Senior Projects, 2006-2007 School Year
Deanna Gwin, Ambridge High School-Deanna completed her senior project by promoting breast cancer awareness while collecting over $300 for the association.
Nathan Harr, Ambridge High School-Nathan completed his senior project by helping us plan and coordinate the 2nd Annual Mile of Silver event.
Sherry Thellman, Big Beaver Falls-Sherry completed her senior project and the Governor's school project by assisting us with our Community Cholesterol screenings and our school cholesterol presentation and screening at Big Beaver Falls Middle School.
Senior Projects, 2005-2006 School Year
Jesse Shamp, Center High School-Jesse completed his senior project by assisting us with our 1st Mile of Silver event.
Lindsey Prokop, Ambridge High School-Lindsey completed her senior project by raising breast cancer awareness and planning a craft show. Lindsey raised over $750.
Zach Hundley, Kyle Householder, and Steve Plevel, Beaver High School-Zach, Kyle and Steve completed their senior project by planning a band concert fundraiser. These young men raised $450 for the association.
8th grade projects: Kelsey Smith and Renee Petrucci, New Brighton Middle School-Kelsey and Renee planned "A Walk for Hope." These young ladies raised over $2,500 for the association.
Girl Scout Projects:
Allison Latagliata-Allison completed her requirements for her Girl Scout Gold Award by promoting heart health within the Beaver Valley Choral Society. Allison also purchased an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the Beaver Valley Choral Society.
Nichole Dorenkott-Nichole completed her requirements for her Girl Scout Gold Award in 2005. Nichole participated in our School Cholesterol screening and promoted heart health.
Boy Scout Projects:
Jacob Morrida-Jacob completed his requirement for his Eagle Scout Award by organizing a health fair and a blood drive. Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association participated in his health fair.
Church Projects:
Trinity Rose Letteri, Trinity Rose completed her confirmation project by raising both awareness and money for our association.
